Leonardo somehow transitions from light areas to dark areas without the use of hard lines. Aspects like the lack of hard lines, lighting and positioning make this painting so intriguing. Other wise known as the La Gioconda, The Mona Lisa is probably Leonardo Da Vinci's most famous painting and the most famous portrait of all time This masterpiece is thought to be of Lisa, wife of Francesco del Giocondo (11). Although, the masterpiece was recently restored (10). Other destruction such as a door being cut through it or mud being thrown at it by the French. Unfortunately, this style of painting led to the degradation of the masterpiece which was only furthered by other destruction (9). ![]() He did this to create a gigantic painting (15'x29') that looked as if it was an oil painting. In addition, he used a new type of painting style to capture this masterpiece: he used tempera on dried plaster. This was a revolutionary tactic that is still used today to capture a true representation of something (8). ![]() Ratios like the Golden Ratio and the Divine Ration are apparent in much of his work. The picture is a masterpiece of proportions and emotion which was very rare during the Renaissance. ![]() Leonardo captures each individual's raw emotion which was never seen in any previous painting. What makes the painting so beautiful is the individual reactions by each of the Apostles to the news. In the painting Da Vinci depicts the moment after Christ tells the Apostles that one of them will betray him.
